The dictionary data in data.js (and any copy or adaptation of it) is licensed
under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence
(CC BY-SA 4.0): https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

Source material
---------------
Most entries are derived from JMdict (JMdict_e), the Japanese-English
dictionary file compiled by Jim Breen and the Electronic Dictionary Research
and Development Group (EDRDG). JMdict is copyright of the EDRDG and is used
in conformance with the EDRDG licence:

The remaining ~2,000 entries (those with example sentences) were written for
this project and are released under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.

Changes made to JMdict
----------------------
This is NOT the original JMdict file. It has been modified as follows:
  * Only a subset of entries (about 98,000 of roughly 219,000) was selected,
    ranked by the commonness tags in JMdict; rare, obsolete, archaic, vulgar,
    derogatory and search-only forms were deprioritised or excluded.
  * Each entry keeps one headword and one reading; alternative written forms
    and readings were dropped.
  * Meanings were condensed: at most the first 3 senses, up to 4 glosses per
    sense, and 160 characters in total. Sense-level notes (usage, field,
    dialect, cross-references, etc.) were dropped.
  * Part-of-speech information was simplified to a single short tag.
  * Romaji was generated automatically from the kana reading and may contain
    errors.
  * Entries identical (same headword and reading) to a hand-written entry were
    replaced by the hand-written one.

No warranty is given. The data may contain errors.

The page template and scripts (index.html, build_data.py) are separate from
the data and are not subject to the ShareAlike condition.
